The Montessori Method

The Montessori Teaching Method was developed and founded by Maria Montessori in 1907 in Italy  

Maria Montessori discovered a method of teaching that allowed the children to develop and learn through their own needs and without barriers.

The Montessori approach to education rests on the premise of supporting the tendencies and sensitivities of each individual as they present themselves as different developmental needs at each stage of development.

This can be summarised in the following way:

• An environment that serves the particular needs of the child’s stage of development.
• An adult who understands the developmental needs of the child and acts as a guide to help the child find his natural path of development.
• Freedom for the child to engage in their own development according to their own particular developmental timeline.

Maria Montessori created an atmosphere in her school that was warm, happy and full of care that would, in turn, create happy, confident children that felt valued and here at the Rugby Montessori School we would like to think we have succeeded in recreating the same atmosphere for our children to develop in.

Every parent wants the best for their child - that is indisputable. It is also now generally accepted that pre-school years are vitally important for the later growth and development of a child's full potential. Because of this, there are a growing number of parents who are seeking a pre-school environment which offers what has come to be known as the "Montessori Method". Montessori schools, it is believed offer the best and aim to provide the child with the right conditions and grounding for his or her potential to be fully realised.
