Starting at Nursery

Starting nursery is a big step for you and your little one and we are here to try and make the transition a smooth and happy one.

We will ask you to come and pick up your little ones baby diary/new starter diary so you can fill it in and bring it back with you on your introductory sessions. We will then have all the relevant information we need to know about them.

We have Introductory Sessions where you can come along with your little one to get to know more about the nursery routine and meet the team. We take this opportunity to learn more about your little one and their individual needs.

Starting in an new environment is a big step for your little one to take and we would advise that you start the settling process before returning back to work, so that you have no other commitments.

We request that your little one's first week is from 9am till 12, we will then assess their progress for their following sessions. We have found that a gradual build up of their hours at nursery during their first 4 weeks helps the settling process.

Please make sure you have arrangements in place so that if your little one needs to do a shorter day there is someone to support them, without your working hours being disrupted.

The most important thing is that your little one has the most positive nursery experience possible. 

Separation anxiety is a normal and very real response to being left in a new environment. This is a completely natural behaviour and will pass over time as your little one gets used to the people around them and we want to work with you to make sure this process is the least stressful it can be for everyone.

You will also be handed a Parents Handbook when your little one starts at Nursery and this will cover our School Policies and Procedures, information about The Montessori Method and general information.

We encourage a positive friendly relationship with parents and your feedback is important to us. We believe that you as parents are their first educators and we want to work alongside you on this exciting journey.

As part of our Parents as Partners we encourage you to telephone us whenever you want an update of how your little one is settling into nursery life.
